在中频炉中，可以熔化各种成分的铸铁，由于熔化过程中氧化损耗少，又能较方便地调节铁液的成分和温度，获得的铁液质量较稳定。一般情况下，使用中频炉代替冲天炉熔化铸铁，往往能使铸件的废品率降低1/2～2/3，这就给企业带来较高的经济收益。中频炉熔化所获得的铸铁含气量（氮、氢、氧）比冲天炉熔化的铸件少1/3～1/4，非金属夹杂物少，铸件强度高，性能可靠。一般情况下可以减少铸件的截面积，使金属材料的消耗降低20%～25%。节省金属原材料，且使机械设备的重量降低。
